FAQs

Why combine Omega 3 with a children's multivitamin?
+

Omega 3 fatty acids — particularly DHA — contribute to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision, making them among the most well-evidenced nutritional supports for children's cognitive development. Many children do not consume sufficient oily fish (the primary dietary source of DHA and EPA) to maintain optimal Omega 3 status. Combining Omega 3 with the core vitamins A, C, D, and B-group in a single daily spoon makes comprehensive supplementation simple for busy families.

Does this product contain fish?
+

Please check the current product label before purchasing. Omega 3 in children's supplements is most commonly sourced from fish oil, which is a major allergen. If your child has a fish allergy, do not use this product without first confirming the Omega 3 source from the current label and consulting your GP or allergy specialist.

What does DHA contribute to in children?
+

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and to the maintenance of normal vision — both EU/UK approved health claims. The brain is approximately 60% fat by dry weight, and DHA is the most abundant omega 3 fatty acid in brain tissue. Adequate DHA intake during childhood, when the brain is developing most rapidly, is supported by nutritional guidelines in the UK and internationally.

How does this differ from standard Abidec Multivitamin Syrup?
+

Standard Abidec Advanced Multivitamin Syrup provides a comprehensive vitamin and mineral profile without Omega 3. The Omega 3 version adds DHA and EPA to the same vitamin foundation, addressing the gap for children whose diets are low in oily fish. If your child already eats oily fish two or more times per week, the standard multivitamin may be sufficient — consult your health visitor or pharmacist if unsure.

At what age can children take this syrup?
+

Please refer to the current product label for the confirmed age range. Confirm from the label before administering to any child, and consult your health visitor or pharmacist if you have any questions about the appropriate age for this product.

Can I give this alongside other vitamin supplements?
+

Consult your pharmacist or GP before combining with any other vitamins. It is important not to exceed safe upper intake levels for Vitamins A and D, which are fat-soluble and accumulate with excess. If your child is also receiving Healthy Start vitamins or any other supplement, your pharmacist can advise whether combining them is appropriate.

Why is Vitamin D recommended for UK children?
+

The UK's northern latitude means that sunlight UVB exposure is insufficient for adequate Vitamin D production for most of the year, particularly during autumn and winter. The NHS and UK Chief Medical Officers recommend that children aged 1–4 take a daily Vitamin D supplement of 10 micrograms (400 IU), and that older children supplement during the darker months. Abidec Syrup with Omega 3 includes Vitamin D as part of its comprehensive children's formula.

How long does the 150ml bottle last?
+

At 5ml once daily, the 150ml bottle provides exactly 30 days — a month's supply. Reorder before the bottle is empty to maintain an uninterrupted daily routine.
