FAQs

What does the yellow colour indicate in the Acti-Fast range?
+

Yellow identifies the 10.75 centimetre flat width within the Acti-Fast colour-coded sizing system. This is one of the wider sizes in the range and is designed for larger body areas such as an adult lower leg, thigh, upper arm in a larger patient, or areas of the trunk and abdomen. The colour-coding system allows clinical staff to identify the correct width at a glance without measuring, which speeds up preparation during dressing procedures and reduces the risk of selecting an incorrect size.

How is this yellow 10.75cm size different from the blue 7.5cm?
+

The blue 7.5cm and yellow 10.75cm sizes serve different body areas. The blue is suited to smaller limbs — a child's lower leg, an adult forearm, or similar areas. The yellow is designed for larger areas such as an adult lower leg, thigh, or trunk. Using the wrong size will either produce a stockinette that is too tight and potentially restrictive, or too loose and prone to slipping and bunching rather than conforming smoothly. Always select the size that provides a smooth, snug fit on the specific body area being dressed.

This product comes in 1 metre — is that enough for a full lower leg dressing?
+

For most adult lower leg applications, a 1 metre length is generally sufficient to cover the area from just above the ankle to just below the knee with appropriate overhang at each end for folding back. However, if the patient's leg is particularly long or if the dressing extends higher than usual, a second length may be needed. The 1 metre pre-cut format is useful where a specific measured length is all that is required per application, avoiding the need to cut from a longer roll.

Can I use this stockinette under a compression bandage system?
+

Yes. Elasticated viscose stockinette is frequently used as the first under-layer in multi-layer compression bandage systems, applied directly over the prepared limb before padding and compression layers are applied. In this context it provides a smooth, protective surface that reduces skin friction beneath the outer layers. The stockinette itself does not contribute to the compression — all compression is generated by the bandage layers applied over it. Follow the specific layering protocol prescribed by the supervising clinician for your patient's compression system.

Is this stockinette suitable for use on the trunk or abdomen?
+

The 10.75cm yellow size can be used on areas of the trunk or abdomen where a tubular retention layer is appropriate for securing a dressing. For abdominal wound dressing retention, the stockinette can be applied as a tube over the trunk with appropriate adjustment for the patient's body size. For very large body areas, a wider size may be needed — check the full Acti-Fast size range to confirm the most appropriate width for your patient's specific measurements.

Can this product be used on patients with latex allergy?
+

Acti-Fast Elasticated Viscose Stockinette is a viscose-based product. NOT FOUND — please confirm latex-free status from the manufacturer's product specification and update this answer. If latex allergy is a concern for your patient, check the product data sheet or contact the manufacturer directly before use. Alternatively, speak to a Pearl Chemist Group pharmacist who can advise on latex-free dressing and bandaging alternatives if confirmation cannot be obtained.
