How to Use Allevyn Classic Non-Adhesive Wound Dressing 5cm x 5cm
- Perform hand hygiene and don appropriate gloves for the procedure.
- Prepare the wound as directed by the clinical care plan. Irrigate the wound with sterile saline. Remove loose necrotic material as indicated. The surrounding skin does not need to be completely dry before applying a non-adhesive dressing — this is one of the advantages of the non-adhesive format in environments where skin moisture cannot easily be fully controlled.
- Open the packaging immediately before use. Handle the dressing by the edges where possible to avoid contaminating the wound-contact surface.
- Place the dressing centrally over the wound surface. Position the 5cm x 5cm pad so that the entire wound is covered and the dressing extends slightly beyond the wound margins. The dressing should rest gently against the wound surface — it does not need to be pressed or secured at this stage.
