FAQs

Why choose the mouthwash format over the gel or spray?
+

The mouthwash rinse format is the most practical choice when ulcers or oral inflammation are spread across multiple areas of the mouth rather than concentrated in one or two discrete sites. A single rinse coats the entire oral cavity — cheeks, gums, tongue, palate, and throat — reaching areas that a gel or spray would require multiple applications to cover. It is also the most comfortable format for patients whose oral tissue is extensively sensitive or inflamed, as the rinse action is gentler than direct application and the alcohol-free formulation avoids any stinging on contact with tender mucosal surfaces.

Can I use this mouthwash if I am having radiotherapy to the head and neck?
+

Oral mucositis is a common and very painful consequence of radiotherapy to the head and neck region, and alcohol-free oral care products are generally preferred during this treatment as alcohol-containing rinses can cause significant discomfort on affected oral tissue. Aloclair Plus products have been used supportively in this context. However, all aspects of oral care during head and neck radiotherapy — including which products to use, when, and how often — should be directed by your radiotherapy or oncology team, who will provide a specific oral care protocol as part of your treatment support. Use this or any oral care product during cancer treatment within the framework of that clinical guidance.

Can I use this mouthwash alongside my regular toothpaste and mouthwash?
+

Yes. Aloclair Plus Mouthwash can be incorporated into your existing oral hygiene routine. As a general principle, use it after brushing and after any fluoride mouthwash — applying it as the final step in your oral hygiene routine means the protective coating is deposited on the oral mucosa without being immediately removed by subsequent rinsing. Leave at least a few minutes between a fluoride mouthwash and the Aloclair rinse, and avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes after using Aloclair to allow the coating time to establish on the mucosal surface.

Is this the right Aloclair product for canker sores (aphthous ulcers)?
+

Yes. Aphthous ulcers — also called canker sores — are the most common type of mouth ulcer and are the primary indication for Aloclair Plus products. The mouthwash format is particularly well suited to aphthous ulcers when they occur in multiple locations simultaneously or in hard-to-reach areas. For a single, well-defined aphthous ulcer in an accessible location, the gel format may provide more targeted protection. For multiple ulcers or widespread oral sensitivity, the mouthwash covers the whole oral cavity in a single rinse. All three formats — gel, spray, and mouthwash — are appropriate for aphthous ulcer management, so choose the format that best matches your symptoms and personal preference.
