FAQs

Is SPF25 sufficient for a summer holiday?
+

SPF25 provides high protection and is appropriate for most adults during moderate summer holiday activities. For extended beach or pool use, very fair skin that burns easily, or high UV index environments (Mediterranean or tropical destinations), SPF50+ provides a better safety margin and is generally preferred by dermatologists. SPF25 is well-suited for UK summer conditions, outdoor activities in moderate UV, and those with medium to darker skin tones. For the most comprehensive protection during a holiday, particularly if water activities are planned, SPF50 is the more conservative and recommended choice.

What is the difference in protection between SPF15, SPF25, and SPF50?
+

SPF15 filters approximately 93% of UVB radiation; SPF25 filters approximately 96%; SPF50 filters approximately 98%. These differences may seem small in percentage terms but are meaningful in practice — SPF25 allows half the UVB of SPF15 to reach the skin, and SPF50 allows half the UVB of SPF25. Over a summer of daily outdoor exposure, the cumulative UV damage protection provided by moving from SPF15 to SPF25 or SPF50 is significant. In addition, because most people under-apply sunscreen, starting with a higher SPF provides a better practical margin of protection than the label figure alone suggests.

How does aloe vera in a sunscreen help my skin?
+

Aloe vera in a sunscreen provides two simultaneous benefits: its anti-inflammatory action moderates the UV-triggered skin inflammation that occurs during exposure even without visible burning, reducing the baseline inflammatory burden on sun-exposed skin throughout the day. And its humectant polysaccharides help to maintain skin moisture levels against the dehydrating effects of heat and sun — producing better post-sun skin comfort and condition than a UV-filter-only formulation provides. It does not increase or replace the SPF protection of the UV filters — it works in parallel to improve the skin's overall condition during and after sun exposure.

Can I use this as my everyday morning moisturiser and sun protection in one?
+

For outdoor workers or those spending significant time outdoors in spring and summer, yes — this lotion can function as a daily body sun protection product applied as the last skin care step before going out. For facial use as a combined moisturiser and SPF, a dedicated facial SPF formulation is typically more appropriate — many body sun lotions are formulated for a different skin texture and tolerance profile than facial skin requires. Our pharmacy team can advise on appropriate facial SPF options from our sun care range.

Is this suitable for sensitive skin?
+

The organic aloe vera base and Aloe Pura's typical formulation approach suggest compatibility with sensitive skin. However, suitability for sensitive skin is also affected by the specific UV filters used — please confirm the filter system from current packaging. Mineral UV filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) are generally the most tolerable on sensitive skin. If sensitive skin reactions to sunscreens have been experienced previously, our pharmacy team can help identify whether the filter system in this product is likely to be better tolerated.
