FAQs

How is this different from the Natural Bronze Body Mist?
+

Both use the same Natural Bronze DHA self-tanning chemistry to produce a gradual, natural-looking result — the primary difference is the application format. This lotion is applied by hand (ideally with a tanning mitt) for direct, controlled coverage; the mist is sprayed from a distance for easier coverage of the back and large areas. The tan quality and development period are essentially the same. The choice between them is one of application preference — lotion for precise control and front-of-body application, mist for back and large area coverage.

Why do I need to exfoliate before self-tanning?
+

DHA reacts with the amino acids in the skin's outermost layer — the stratum corneum. Dry, flaky, or dead skin cells that have not been shed absorb DHA more heavily than fresh skin cells, producing darker, patchier areas where dry skin is present. Exfoliating 24 to 48 hours before self-tanning removes these accumulated dead cells and creates an even surface for the DHA to react with — producing a smoother, more consistent, and longer-lasting tan result. This step is the most commonly skipped and is the most common cause of unsatisfactory self-tanning results.

How do I prevent streaks?
+

Streaks in self-tan are almost always caused by uneven blending at the application stage rather than by the product itself. Use a tanning mitt rather than bare hands, work in overlapping circular and sweeping motions, spend extra time blending at joint areas (knees, elbows, ankles, wrists), and ensure every part of each area is covered before moving on. Applying to completely dry, freshly exfoliated skin, and using sparingly on dry areas, reduces the risk of dark patches. If streaks appear after development, exfoliating the affected areas moderates them significantly.

How often should I reapply to maintain the tan?
+

Reapply every three to five days to maintain consistent depth — timing the reapplication before the previous tan has fully faded rather than after, for the most seamless maintenance. Daily moisturising between applications extends the tan's life and produces a more even fade, making the reapplication process simpler. If the tan is fading unevenly, a gentle body exfoliation before reapplying helps to even out the uneven base before the next application develops.
