FAQs

Why is glycerin soap gentler than conventional soap?
+

Conventional soap relies on sodium or potassium salts of fatty acids (the saponified oils) for its cleansing action, and the manufacturing process typically removes the glycerin that forms during saponification — that glycerin is sold separately as a raw material. This removal produces a harder, longer-lasting bar that is efficient at removing oils but leaves little conditioning benefit. Glycerin soap retains the glycerin, which acts as a humectant during washing — drawing moisture to the skin surface and partially offsetting the depletion of natural oils that cleansing causes. The result is a cleansing bar that cleans effectively but leaves the skin noticeably more comfortable, softer, and less stripped than conventional soap.

Can I use this soap on my face?
+

Please confirm from current product information whether this bar is indicated for facial use. Glycerin soap can be suitable for facial cleansing for some skin types, but bars formulated for hand and body use may not be calibrated for the more delicate and reactive nature of facial skin. For sensitive facial skin, the Amphora Chamomile Floral Water used as a toner and a dedicated gentle facial cleanser is typically a more appropriate choice than a bar soap. Confirm from packaging and update accordingly.

How long does a 125g bar last?
+

With proper storage on a draining soap dish, a 125g glycerin soap bar will typically last four to eight weeks with daily hand washing use, or two to four weeks with daily body washing use. Glycerin soap softens and dissolves faster than conventional soap when stored in moisture — the draining soap dish between uses is the most impactful practical step for extending bar life.

Is glycerin soap suitable for eczema-prone skin?
+

A gentle glycerin soap with chamomile may provide a more comfortable cleansing experience than conventional soap for eczema-prone skin — the glycerin's humectant action and chamomile's anti-inflammatory character both address aspects of the eczema skin's vulnerabilities during the washing process. However, for clinically significant eczema, cleansing approach should be discussed with your GP or pharmacist — soap substitutes (emollient-based washes rather than traditional soap) are often the preferred clinical recommendation for eczema management. Our pharmacy team at Pearl Chemist Group can advise on appropriate cleansing products for eczema-affected skin.
