Weight Management Service

In 2024, 30% of adults aged 16 and over in England were living with obesity, and 66% were either overweight or living with obesity.1 Carrying excess weight is associated with serious long-term health conditions including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and certain cancers. A BMI of 30 to 35 has been found to reduce life expectancy by an average of three years, while a BMI of over 40 reduces longevity by eight to ten years.2

Yet for many people, losing weight sustainably is genuinely difficult. Hormones, metabolism, sleep, stress, and mental health all play a role — and willpower alone rarely tells the full story. That is why clinical support makes such a significant difference.

At Pearl Chemist Group, we offer a private, pharmacist-led weight management service designed around you — combining expert clinical assessment, personalised lifestyle guidance, and access to the latest clinically approved treatments, including Wegovy® and Mounjaro®, across all 29 of our South London branches.

Who Is This Service For?

Our private weight management service is available to adults who meet one of the following criteria:

  • BMI of 30 or above (classified as obesity)
  • BMI of 27 or above alongside a weight-related health condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Adults seeking clinical support to complement their own lifestyle changes

️  Please note: Prescription medication is not suitable for everyone. A full clinical assessment by one of our GPhC-registered pharmacists is required before any treatment is recommended.

Clinically Approved Treatments

We offer access to two of the most clinically advanced, MHRA-approved prescription weight loss treatments currently available in the UK: Wegovy® and Mounjaro®. Both belong to a class of medicines known as GLP-1 receptor agonists and work with your body’s own appetite-regulating hormones to support significant, sustained weight loss — when used alongside a healthy diet and increased physical activity.

Your pharmacist will discuss both options during your consultation and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on your individual health profile, medical history, and personal preferences.3

Wegovy® (Semaglutide)

How it works: Mimics a naturally occurring gut hormone (GLP-1) released after eating, reducing appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and increasing feelings of fullness.

Clinical evidence: Patients lost an average of ~15% of their body weight — around 3 to 4 times more than with lifestyle changes alone.4

Also available as: A once-daily oral tablet — the first oral GLP-1 approved for weight management in the UK by the MHRA (June 2026). Achieves ~14% weight loss vs ~2% with placebo over 64 weeks.5 ⏳ Coming soon to all PCG branches.

Added benefit: Semaglutide has also been shown to reduce serious cardiovascular events by 20% in adults with heart disease.6

  • Once-weekly injection or daily oral tablet
  • MHRA-approved: BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with weight-related condition
  • Suitable for long-term weight management

Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide)

How it works: Uniquely targets two gut hormones simultaneously — GLP-1 and GIP — reducing appetite, improving fullness, and supporting better blood sugar regulation.

Clinical evidence: Patients lost up to 22% of their body weight on the highest dose — and 9 in 10 patients lost at least 5% of their body weight.7

ApprovedMHRA-approved for weight management in the UK since November 2023.8

  • Once-weekly injection
  • MHRA-approved: BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with weight-related condition
  • Dual-hormone mechanism — currently unique among approved treatments
  • Particularly effective for those with blood sugar and metabolic concerns

No. As a private service, you can access a consultation directly without a GP referral. Your pharmacist will conduct a full clinical assessment to determine the most appropriate treatment.

How much does the service cost?

Costs vary depending on the treatment recommended. Pricing will be discussed in full and transparently during your initial consultation. There are no hidden fees.

Which treatment will I be prescribed — Wegovy® or Mounjaro®?

Both are clinically approved and effective. The right option for you will be determined by your pharmacist based on your health profile, medical history, and personal preferences. Your pharmacist will take the time to find the right fit for you.

How long does treatment last?

There is no fixed duration. Both treatments are generally recommended for a minimum of 12 weeks to see meaningful results, and are always used alongside dietary and lifestyle changes. Your pharmacist will guide you based on your progress.

What are the common side effects?

These typically improve over time. Your pharmacist will discuss what to expect and how to manage any side effects.

Can I switch to PCG from another provider?

Yes. If you are currently receiving treatment elsewhere and wish to transfer, our pharmacists can assess your situation and help you transition smoothly to our private service.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get the Weight Loss Service?

Pearl Chemist Group is pleased to offer our weight loss management services at our flagship store in Tooting and across all our branches with 20 pharmacy locations in South London. Our weight loss services are only carried out by registered pharmacists who have undergone special training to guide and assist you, which means you can approach what could be a brand-new chapter for your health and wellness with peace of mind. Your initial consultation can be conducted confidentially in person using our private consultation rooms in pharmacy, or if you qualify, via phone. Subsequent follow ups which are part of the service we provide, can be conducted via video conferencing.

How long will the service take?

There is no set duration for the length of our weight loss management service. Your progress and your goal will largely dictate how long you may want to utilise our service. Saxenda, if prescribed, should be used for a minimum of 12 weeks to see results, and should be used in conjunction with other traditional weight loss methods like calorie control and exercise for a successful weight loss diet plan. So long as you are not experiencing any unpleasant side effects, your paired pharmacist can prescribe you Saxenda for as long as it takes to reach your goal.

What do I get as part of the Weight Loss Service?

When you sign up for our London-based weight loss clinic at PCG you are paired with a pharmacy professional who is tasked with providing you 1:1 support throughout your weight loss journey. You will be provided with an initial consultation where your medical background is obtained, and an explanation is given to how your treatment will be carried out. This may include guidance on how to supplement the administration of your medical weight loss aid with a health diet and exercise regime. As part of our service, you will also have the opportunity to connect with your paired pharmacist each week to discuss your progress, relay any questions or concerns, and to purchase additional medicine.

Who can’t use the Medicated Weight Loss Service?

Our weight loss management service is intended for use by those who are considered clinically overweight with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 30, and in some cases when recommended by a doctor, over 27. The medication used as part of our service to help reduce your weight was originally prescribed to diabetics who experienced an added bonus of weight loss and appetite suppression when using it, so after conducting clinical trials it was approved for use with expanded application and proven results. While most people can take Saxenda without worry, people with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 (MEN 2) would not be considered good candidates.

What is the prescription medication used in the injection?

If the pharmacist you are paired with as part of our weight loss management service decides you are a good candidate for medicated weight loss treatment, you will be prescribed a medication called Saxenda. Saxenda comes as a pen with medicine inside that is injected subcutaneously into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. The injection site and timing of your dose can be adjusted to suit giving you the freedom to choose an administration method and time of day you are comfortable with. You will be shown how to properly self-administer your injections as part of our service.

What is Saxenda?

Saxenda is a medication you may be prescribed as part of our weight loss management services to help you achieve weight loss. It comes as a pen which closely resembles a finger pricking device used to test blood sugar. It is a medicine that works by engaging your hormones that are responsible for regulating your feelings of hunger. Saxenda is administered daily via injection with pharmacist oversight regarding your dosage. The dosage you are prescribed initially may increase throughout the duration of your treatment and is to be expected.
