PHARMACY FIRST

What is Pharmacy First?

The Pharmacy First scheme provides professional health care advice, treatments, and medicines for common illnesses without the need for a GP appointment or prescription.

It aims to provide a convenient and swift solution for minor health concerns, promoting accessibility to essential treatments. Patients can consult with our trained pharmacists who can assess their symptoms, offer guidance, and supply appropriate medications when deemed suitable.

This initiative is designed to address common, self-limiting conditions, such as mild infections or allergies, enabling individuals to receive timely care without burdening general practitioner services.

Pharmacy First enhances patient autonomy and contributes to the efficient use of healthcare resources by leveraging the expertise of pharmacists in managing minor health issues.

What Common Healthcare Conditions Can We Help With?

Pharmacy First covers eight common conditions

How Can I Access Treatment?

You can get treatment for these conditions by walking into any Pearl Chemist Group branch without an appointment. We also allow patients to book online.

GP receptionists, NHS 111 and providers of emergency care will also be able to direct you, if contacted.

What Will Happen When I Arrive at the Pharmacy?

The pharmacist will be able to speak to you privately in a separate consultation room. They may perform an examination or ask to access your medical records. The pharmacist will be able to recommend the best course of action, including issuing prescriptions for antibiotics or antivirals where necessary.

Prescription Charges?

Usual prescription charges will apply for the eight common conditions. Patients that are already exempt from prescription charges will still be exempt.
