Private Blood Pressure Checks
Why is a Regular Blood Pressure Check Important?
One in three adults in the UK is affected by High Blood Pressure and doesn’t know it. If left untreated, this condition can result in heart problems, strokes, and damage to other vital organs.
Regular blood pressure checks are essential as high blood pressure is often asymptomatic, and people can remain undiagnosed until it's too late.
By monitoring your blood pressure, you can identify any potential issues early on and take appropriate steps to manage them. High Blood Pressure is a risk factor for various diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
How to Measure Your Blood Pressure?
Your blood pressure can be assessed by your GP, at your local Pearl Chemist Group pharmacy, or through the use of a blood pressure monitor like the Omron M3 Comfort basic blood pressure monitor at home.
Measuring your blood pressure using the machine takes only a couple of minutes and is painless.
Your blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and is presented as two numbers, with one appearing on top and one on the bottom. The top number refers to systolic pressure, which is the highest pressure when your heart beats and pushes blood around your body.
The bottom number represents the diastolic pressure, which is the lowest level of your blood pressure when your heart relaxes between beats. For instance, your blood pressure may be given as 120/80mmHg or expressed as "120 over 80".
What is Considered a Normal Blood Pressure Range?
A normal blood pressure range for adults is typically considered to be less than 120/80 mmHg. This is the range that is generally recommended by healthcare professionals as optimal for maintaining good health and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
However, blood pressure can vary throughout the day and can be affected by various factors such as stress, exercise, and diet. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine what blood pressure range is appropriate for you based on your age, medical history, and other individual factors.
What is Considered a High Blood Pressure Reading?
Hypertension, also referred to as High Blood Pressure, is diagnosed when the measurement reads 140/90mmHg or above. If your blood pressure is elevated, it can impose stress on your heart, blood vessels, and other organs, leading to an increased risk of ailments such as heart disease, heart attacks, or strokes.
To determine whether you have high blood pressure, you will need to get your blood pressure measured, as the condition does not exhibit any symptoms.
