How to Cure a Sore Throat?

Honey and Warm Water

Honey can be eaten straight or dipped into warm water as a drink for soothing.  Do not give honey to children under 1 year old (12 months) as there is a risk of botulism for children that young.

Salt Water Gargle

Nearly every household has salt in the cupboard. Salt is a natural antiseptic and gargling with it can reduce swelling and clear any mucous away. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water. Gargle, spit, repeat.  Continue with this treatment twice a day.

Hydration plus honey, lemon, ginger, cinnamon sticks or garlic

Often a sore throat comes hand in hand with a cold or flu.  Hydration will be even more important to practice while under the weather.  Add some garlic,cinnamon sticks or ginger with honey and lemon to water to assist your body in fighting off your illness. All have antiviral, antimicrobial and soothing properties.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are not only full of vitamins and minerals which promote good health, they also contain antioxidants and astringents effective for reducing swelling in the throat. You can use pomegranate tea and juices with no added sugar.  

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea contains a mild sedative that can promote relaxation and restorative sleep.  Rest is imperative when you are unwell. It also has antibacterial and muscle relaxant properties that can ease throat pain and encourage faster recovery.
