Skincare Staples for Oily Skin Winter Edition

If you’re someone with oily skin, you’d generally look forward to the cold weather. With less humidity and cooler temperatures, you may think that it is easier to manage oily skin in winter because the cold and crisp winter breeze removes the excess oil, but this is not completely true.

The arrival of winter does require a few adjustments in your beauty routine, but you should continue to use your favourite oily skincare products. You can buy skin care products online or at your local pharmacy to keepyour skin to keep it happy and healthy!

Read the following skincare routines to learn more about winter skin care.

MORNING & EVENING ROUTINE

Face Wash

Wash your face twice a day (morning and night) with a face cleanser designed for your type of oily skin.

● Use a cleanser, toner and then follow up with a moisturiser. For oily skin, use water-based cleansers and toners over cleansing milk.

● Choose a daily moisturiser or makeup foundation that has a built-in SPF.

Treatment/ Serums

If you are using retinol or any other actives, we advise you to reduce the frequency of their usage as excessive use of acids during winters can sensitise your skin.

Moisturise Your Skin

● After you’ve removed your makeup and washed your face, use a cream-based moisturiser to seal the moisture in. A cream-based moisturiser is one of the bestskin care products you will invest in. The proper moisturiser will replenish water to help protect the skin on your face without leading to breakouts.

SPF is a must

It is a common misconception that it is okay to skip suncream during the winter season. While the intensity might not be as much, it is still advised to wear a minimum of SPF 30 every day.

Handy Tips on Winter Care

All skin types, including oily skin, are susceptible to dryness during the low-humidity winter months.

If you need help controlling acne during the winter:

● Try applying a salicylic acid-containing toner once a day after cleansing. Salicylic acid tends to be less drying than benzoyl peroxide but can still decrease inflammation.

● Don’t use excessive amounts of topical medicines, it will cause unwanted dryness.

● Remember, if your skin gets excessively dry, your sebaceous glands work harder to produce more sebum, and this can lead to clogged pores and acne.
