Does Ice Help Acne

Acne can be stubborn, and it always seems to pop up at the worst possible times. The good news is that OTC and prescription medications can zap pimples and help stop new breakouts.

The bad news is that some acne products can cause side effects like redness, discolouration, or dryness. For this reason, many people are turned off by conventional (medical) acne treatments.

Natural and home skin care remedies are quickly gaining popularity, including alternative treatments for acne such as icing. Even though using ice to treat acne has shown some positive results, the debate is whether this treatment can clear up your acne breakout for good.

ACNE TREATMENT

Using home remedies such as ice or homemade face masks can help get rid of pimples without the damaging side effects of acne treatments with harsh chemicals which can dry out and adversely affect the skin.

Most acne treatments contain benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid which are very effective but can be drying or slightly harsh especially on sensitive skin.

How Icing Works?

When used on inflammatory acne (not blackheads), ice can decrease swelling and redness, making your pimples less noticeable and smaller. It can also reduce the painof cystic and nodular acne by temporarily numbing the area. In theory, slowly decreasing the size of pimples with ice can eventually make them go away entirely.

Using ice as an acne treatment is most beneficial when used with other methods, such as:

•              Regularly washing the face with a good cleanser developed for acne-prone skin.

•              Applying a face lotion or cream designed for your skin type.

•              Using non-comedogenic makeup.

•              Eating a healthy and balanced diet

OTC Treatment for Acne

While icing can be effective in making pimples go away, it is not an effective long-term treatment. There are many skin care products available such as La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat+ 40ML and Uriage Hyseac 3 Regul Global Skincare 40ML that can greatly help in preventing and treating acne.

Here are some dermatologist-recommended acne treatment products:

•              Uriage Hyseac Matifying Emulsion 40ML

•              La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo[+] Unifiant Light 40ML

•              Bioderma Sebium Global 30ML
